Hosting Birthday Parties
What are the legal aspects of starting a princess look-a-like birthday host business? Thanks in advance?
I’ve noticed businesses where characters go to children’s birthday parties to surprise the birthday child and take photos, do crafts, host tea parties etc. and am interested in starting a business like this myself. Firstly though, I’m wondering what the legal aspects are of portraying famous characters (or I suppose “licensed” characters) such as those of Disney. I’m curious because while it is obvious what characters are being portrayed due to the costume they are referred to as “Princess Beauty”/”Slumbering Beauty”/Etc. rather than the Disney names. Thank you in advance for a response!
Really depends on where you are in the world
Disney would never allow permission, but i highly doubt they would go after a small business not claiming to be disney.
If its a person in a dress it will be fine
If its mickey mouse in a full costume and big head it might be a bit harder
Uk – full background check on each employee to come into contact with vunerable people (kids/disabled etc) = CRB
Risk assessments on all activities reviewed and updated annually – to be signed as seen by all employees (google some templates) to protect your company legally should something go wrong
